Hoefling Truck & Tractor originated in 1941 as Hoeflings/Riggins, a partnership between Leo Hoefling and Cletus Riggins. In 1943, Hoefling purchased the dealership from International Harvester, and the business was incorporated as Hoefling Truck and Tractor. During World War II, new agriculture equipment was difficult to acquire, so the business was built primarily around used equipment and repairs. From 1944 to 1947, the business also included an Oldsmobile dealership. Hoefling Truck & Tractor, Inc. has survived over the years as a result of dedicated employees. Leonidas “Lon” Horrall joined the company in 1945, serving as vice president, parts department manager and service department manager until his retirement in 1980. Geoffrey H. Price joined Hoefling Truck & Tractor, Inc. in 1947 and served as secretary/treasurer of the corporation and business manager. He retired in 1990. Louise “Susie” Fields was also a life-long employee. She worked in the parts department for nearly 30 years. John J. Hoefling managed the service department and served as the president of the company after the succession of his father Leo.
Today, David J. Hoefling and Daniel K. Price manage the company and serve as salesmen. Mark Frette is the parts manager while Gary Blair is the service manager. The success of Hoefling Truck & Tractor, Inc. is attributed directly to the dedication of all the employees involved daily as well as the loyalty of generational and new customers alike. Proof of this statement occurred after the evening of May 12, 1997 when a fire destroyed the original downtown location of the business on Meridian Street in Washington. Employees and customers pulled the business back together seemingly overnight. The current location of Hoefling Truck & Tractor is on the east edge of Washington at the intersection of Business 50 and Bypass 150. The selection of new and used equipment includes Case IH, Kubota, Gehl, LandPride, Great Plains, Demco, and much more! Hoefling Truck & Tractor can sell you the equipment you need and keep it running efficiently whether you choose to utilize our state-of-the-art Service Department or to do the work yourself with the help of our knowledgeable Parts Department. We look forward to continuing to serve the Daviess County community and surrounding areas, and we thank you for your business.
